Cuban on Nash
Forgot the sports side of this, if you are in any kind of a position where you work with people, where you work for people, where you have people working for you, where you have any interest in the back story that goes on when people work together, you need to read Mark Cuban's story about the Dallas Maverics losing Steve Nash. It's one of the most insightful things I've read in quite some time. It's especially interesting to me because, while I don't run a sports team that workes with players, I did run a record label that worked with bands, and Caryn and I run an art gallery where we work with artists and it's amazing how much of this crosses over. Bands and Artists have been lost in very similar situations.
Honestly and straight fowardness like this is going to go a very long way. A lot of the kinds of deals discussed here hinge on someone not knowing what the other is doing - Mark making this kind of stuff public, and very public at that, is a giant step in the right direction. If there's no secrets, no hidden agendas, then the people involved can make the best choice. Rarely is that the case, hopefully this is the kind of thing that will help put an end to that.
