LACMA blocking Art Blogs?
OK, first of all I have NO solid info or details about this, so I have no real idea what is up. Caryn hint's about this here but basically we've heard from some employees of LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) that they used to be able to read abLA and MAN and other art blogs but now can't. Details are *very* sketchy at the moment but we've heard that there's some new filtering / blocking software in place that lists blocks as porn, or something like that. Again, nothing here is confirmed, but as soon as I get a spare minute I'm going to look into this a bit further.
Update: Just heard from an employee who says that about 3-4 months ago LACMA's system got infected by some virus and pretty much all of the 400 people who work there were unable to use their computers. To prevent another such incident they've installed some hardcore firewall. They can still visit gallery sites and everything...just no blogs, friendsters, or things of the like.
Still sounds a bit sketchy to me, since they would have needed to install a black-list to block out all the art blogs that they did. If I was in LA right now I would just call them for a statement...
Update 2: I'm getting some contacts there and will call. Once I know more I'll make a new post, probably on Blogging.la
Update 3: I e-mailed them, and wrote about it here.
