Google Maps is the #3 return on a Google search for "maps"

Hmmm... their algorithm is arguably, less than perfect in this example? I wonder why they didn't buy this term? ;-)

I just think this goes to show the honesty of Google's algorithm. Clearly they are not doing anything to improve their result here. It makes me happy that not even Google own pages get preferential treatment in Google search results.

yeah even for 'search' they don't show 'google' first- shows the unbiased approach.

Even in google's new data center "bigdaddy" the result has not shifted, but it's just a matter of time I think till the sites backlinks build and close the gap to #1

All's only fair if they don't alter results to googles own advantage. I noticed that in a serp that I pulled up that they Google did have an AdWord advert for their http://www.google.com/glm/
mobile service. (which appeared above the first organic result.
