Two wheels of glory

cinder.jpg

When I moved to Gainesville for college the first thing that I noticed that people liked to do, besides blow shit up and rock, was ride bikes. Luckily for me I'd bought my first mountain bike a month before. Unluckily for me I bought a crappy one. Luckily for me some friends own a super bad ass bike shop in town. Unluckily for me I was broke as all hell and the price tag on a bad ass bike was not small. I rode my crappy bike for a year or two while I saved up and got the cheepest bad ass bike I could get, a Kona Hahanna. It was the baddest assed bike I'd ever touched and over the next year or so my friends at the bike shop helped me replace all the bits and pieces on it with top of the line hardware. That thing ruled my world and I rode it everywhere. Then I moved to Chicago and continued to ride it as much as I could, although the weather put a damper on that many months out of the year. At the second apartment I lived at my retard neighbors left the door wide open to the common area one night so all their party guests didn't have to buzz to get in. This made their lives much easier I guess, as well as the lives of their guests since they stole every bike in the apartment on their way out. The landlords wouldn't do anything about it, and the neighbor in question was appalled that anyone would "ever consider spending more than $50 on a bicycle" so they didn't replace shit. But I had insurace, and friends at a bike shop who put together an estimate of what the bike was worth with all the bad ass upgrades and a week or two later I had a brand spaking new Kona Cinder Cone (pictured above, but mine is black). Then I moved to LA and rode it a bunch, then I moved to the hills and it's been in a garage for the last few years. Today I busted it out and remembered how ruling it is. I dropped it off at a shop for a complete tune up to get it back into working order, and by god I'm gonna start ridding the thing again every chance I get. I sit on the couch far too much these days and need something to keep my heart beating. The bike itself is a huge step up from my old one, but it's a little depressing that the stock breaks, shifters, forks, etc that came on it are not nearly as awesome as the ones I had on my old bike that got swiped. Well, if I actually start using this thing I think I'll be able to justify the upgrades. Anyone want to ride around the lake?

Any time, bro. I'm a cyclin fool. I'll show you my favorite morning hillclimbs Tues and Thurs. I usually start my day feeling like frickin' Superman after those.

Mack! Sounds great! I pick my bike up Monday afternoon so I'm totally down for a tuesday ride. Since I haven't been on this thing in at least 3 years I'll most likely die somewhere on the trip but that's the way it goes.

Hey Mack and Sean, can I come? Huh? Huh? Can I?

And Sean, might I recommend you partake of next Friday night's Midnight Ridazz? 9:30 p.m. Echo Park Avenue just north of Sunset.

Will - OK, I'm sure I'm being a total putz here because I know I've seen it online somewhere, but can post (or e-mail me) the midnight ridazz info? There's an e-mail list or something light? I need to get on that thing...

No problem man. Here's the link to the Bicycle Kitchen webpage to get added to the Midnight Ridzaa email list:
