What's a little texting between friends?
There is a super interesting conversation developing in the comments on this photo Tantek shot of Micki, Jason and I at dinner back in May. As you can see in the photo I look like total shit. Surprisingly, that's not the topic at hand. Stop staring at my hair and look left, see Micki is texting someone in the middle of dinner. I don't know what the message was but can only assume it was something about how completely disheveled I looked. Anyway, Tantek is making the argument that this is perfectly acceptable while some others aren't so quick to agree. Rude? Harmless Multitasking? Verdict is still clearly out on this...

Depends on the situation. If you are texting a friend you plan to meet up with later and sharing those details, it's fine. Likewise if you have an emergency.
As for texting just to pass the time instead of interacting with your tablemates (not saying this was the case, of course...but if it were) then that might be considered as a tad rude.

She was trying to find out where the people that were supposed to be meeting us for dinner were I do believe.

IMHO, it's fine if it has something to do with the group or the current discussion.
If not, it's rude.
