Check Listing the Check List
I'm approaching the 24 hours till departure time, so here's a list (off the top of my head) of things I'm taking.
- passport
- vegan passport
- books: Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know--And Doesn't, The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason, Pattern Recognition, and maybe one or two more that I might grab at the last second. If I get my hands on a copy of Snowcrash I'll take that too.
- audiobooks: The Road, The Assault on Reason, The Art of Happiness, The Art of Seduction (these will mostly be for on plane usage)
- headphones: in ear sound isolating, over ear, and w/mic (for skype)
- laptop
- HD/still cam + extra battery and memory cards
- mobile phone (only 50% chance it'll work there, but will probably rent a local one when I get in as well)
- assorted chargers/wires/connectors
- plane power adapter
- small Chrome bag for walking around.
- rain coat
- hats (to block sun/rain)
- assorted clothes (short & long sleeve / leg)
- ipod shuffle
- a bunch of cliff bars
- melatonin
- moo cards
- earplugs
- sunglasses
- hard/solid bathroom items (will just buy liquids past security to avoid TSA bullshit)
- Some of the stuff recommended here and here. (I'll probably skip bringing things like an Umbrella and just buy there, partially because I don't have one in LA, and also partially because I don't need one in LA.)
- Extra shoes? Maybe?
That's about it, I'm sure there's obvious things I'm forgetting at the moment. I'm trying to decide if I should bring a movie or two for the plane as well, but thinking right now I'll stick with the books/audiobooks/laptop combo. I also need to pick up a Tokyo metropolitan atlas as recommended here.

Pattern Recognition is excellent. I can't wait for his new one, Spook Country, which comes out next month.
