Heading back to LA / Tokyo round up
Those are two photos from todays photo walk around Tokyo. The rest of the shots I took at up here and the shots everyone else took are over here. If you've somehow missed it or want a recap, all of the photos I've posted from Japan so far are in this flickr set. I don't know how much, if at all I'll be taking tomorrow as most of the day will be packing dirty laundry, riding a train to the airport, and then time traveling back to LA (I leave at 4PM on the 23rd, and get back at 10AM on the 23RD). So that may very well be all the photos I'll have from this trip. There are almost 600 of them so it's a lot to go through. Once I get back to LA and recover a bit I'll sort out what I think are my favorite shots from the trip.
I've got a lot more to say about this trip as well, but think that's also better off waiting until a few days back in LA. I can say that this trip has been everything I hoped it would be and Tokyo us the first city I've been to in the last 7 years or so that I'd even consider moving to. Of course I lack a legitimate reason to do that, and an income to justify it, and I don't speak Japanese - but all that aside you get my point. Though I am excited to get back to LA. It's been funny mentioning where I'm from around Tokyo, as I'm greeted with one of two reactions and not much of a middle ground. People either get very excited and say "yeah!" and high five me, or they cringe and make a comment about how dangerous and scary they think LA is. Dangerous, scary, or awesome, LA is my briar patch, my home, and I love it like you wouldn't believe.
Anyway, posting will be light the next few days while I travel and get back on west coast time but here's a quick roundup of the posts I've made from Tokyo in case you didn't see them and want to:
- Notes From Japan, Part 1: This was an almost minute by minute rundown of my first 30 hours or so in town, with photos.
- Notes From Japan, Part 2: More introspective thoughts after a second day, and lots of walking around on my own.
- Your Phone's Off The Hook, But You're Not: A piece I wrote for the SG Newswire about communicating with people inside and outside of Japan, and observations on how others are as well.
- The Chinese have a lot of hells, Jack: A quick hit about a trip to Yokohama's Chinatown.
- Untitled Train Story: A train, a book, a song, and a girl.
