ineffectual Habits

Jason just linked to a post about '7 habits of highly ineffectual people' - most of it is pretty obvious stuff to anyone looking at these kinds of things and most of them are pretty hot topics in one form or another. I wanted to voice my support for some of these ideas...

1. Not showing up - this is a big one. I've talked myself out of showing up to a lot of things over the years and I'm actively trying to do the opposite now to mixed, but often positive results. Definitely a big fan of this idea. Just do it.

The next few are lots about putting things off and todo lists and things of that sort. Again, pretty obvious but good advice none the less. Then we get to this:

4. Thinking too much - ditto on this. You can talk yourself out of just about anything. Stop over thinking it and just do it. If there are any potential benefits it's worth trying. Which leads easily to...

5. Seeing the negative and downsides in just about anything - which is exactly my point above. If you try hard enough you can come up with a reason not to do everything. Knock it the hell off.

6. Clinging to your own thoughts and being closed to outside influences - inverting this has been a theme of mine for most of 2007 and I like the results. There are people smarter than me, and they are are worth listening too. Likewise I'm smarter today than I was last week, or last year, so even my own ideas often need revision. This is good stuff.

Anyway. It's a post worth reading for sure.

Sean Bonner has been annoying people on the internet since 1994. Currently he lives in Los Angeles and is the co-founder of Metroblogging. Despite growing up in Bradenton, Yahoo! thinks he's the most important "Sean" on the internets. He's sick of labels. This was his blog until sometime in 2007 when it broke.
