03/30/2002 Entry: "Spam, the mystery meat"
Do you Yahoo!? Well you might not want to after you read this. If you read Slashdot you probably already know about this, as it's been a huge fuss over there for the last 24 hours. I noticed this morning that a few other news sources are talking about it too which is reassuring. If you are on any kind of a yahoogroups mailing list, have a yahoo e-mail account, use yahoo IM, or anything like that, this applies to you. Remember when you signed up? Do you remember any kind of "do you want to receive tons of spam?" question? Neither did most people but chances are you clicked NO on the "want to receive special marketing offers from out partners?" questions.
Don't believe it? Neither did I, but it's true. Go to your yahoo! account and log in. Click on ACCOUNT INFO, and about halfway down the page is a small "edit your marketing options" link, that takes you to a full page of things they want to know if you want sent to you. And yes, you are marked YES on every single one.
Change that to NO, tell all your friends, and maybe more press will come out about this and show them how insanly wrong this is.
