11/21/2002 Entry: "you might be supporting terrorists."
Let me start this off with a little clip that's been floating around for a while but still kicks ass.
By now EVERYONE has probably seen those ads claiming that "if you by drugs, you might be funding terrorism." As a guy who dosen't do drugs, hell, doesn't even drink, I'm appaled that people would stoop to that level and try to scare people like that. So we're supposed to believe that if you spend $20 on some pot, that after all the greedy drug dealers take their cut, what $0.10 or so is going to make it all the way around the world to the middle east and into someone's hands who's going to save up a few hundred thousand bucks (ovr what, the next 100 years?) and buy some rockets to shoot at unsuspecting puppies or something? Please. Thanks for tiping us all off on that one guys, making a big dent in terrorism with that crap. It's no surprise that they aren't running adds for things that REALLY send LOTS of cash to that part of the world, like... oh I dunno... oil? Oh yeah there's an assload of people with tons of cash who make sure that "liberal lies" like that are kept pretty quite. Well, here's some info you might care about:
Major companies that import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01).
Shell.......................... 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco........ 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon/Mobil.......... ....130,082,000 barrels
Marathon.................. 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco....................... 62,231,000 barrels
If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! but there's NO WAY any of that is makeing into the hands of terrorists right? Right?
Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Citgo ........... 0 barrels
Sunoco ....... 0 barrels
Conoco ....... 0 barrels
Sinclair ........0 barrels
BP/Phillips ...0 barrels
Hess ............0 barrels
Arco.............0 barrels
Although I'm not suggesting you support Arco, because their "we don't take credit cards" policy is a hunk of crap, you might want to keep this list in your car or share it with some friends. It's all nice and flowerchild-like of me to suggest something like this honestly, to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. I'm just one jerk mailing a few hundred people. All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Blah.
And just to put that all back in perspective for you, here's some insane Japanesesness...
